ABOUT MANBABY

MANBABY is Matt Clark, a multimedia artist based in Portland, Oregon. This website is a record of his work from 2003 to the present.

In 2001, Matt created the self-published comic book ROBOT THE ROBOT, writing and illustrating Robot's comic adventures for the next three years.

In 2004, Matt transitioned from illustrated output to animation, directing and producing LIFE, an award-winning short film for Brooks running shoes that follows a runner's journey from birth to the grave, joyfully jogging all the way.

On the heels of LIFE's success, Matt was commissioned by San Francisco ad agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners for an animated broadcast spot entitled MOVIES ON DEMAND, featuring four modernized versions of the animated Snack-Booth characters that used to sing during intermission at the drive-in. MOVIES ON DEMAND aired nationally during the 2005 World Series.

In 2006, Matt worked on character designs for several proposed animated series, including an adult-themed show to be helmed by Chris Henchy for HBO, and a teen-centered comedy for Curious Pictures, as well as developing characters for a South American soft-drink brand, MIRINDA.

Later in 2006, Matt worked with the Washington State Dept. of Health to create the short animation SMOKE BUDDIES, featuring a team of anti-superheroes whose “powers” show teens what they can expect from cigarette use: bad breath, wrinkles, phlegm, and no spending money.

In 2007, Matt was commissioned by Goodby Silverstein & Partners for another, more expansive Comcast campaign, SLANGUAGE. Winner of several industry awards, SLANGUAGE features 11 new slang terms enacted by various animated characters.

In 2008, Matt collaborated with David Arquette and Emmy-award winning writer Ben Joseph on MONSTA TRUCKAS, based on the adventures of a team of monster truck-driving teenage super-nerds who happen to be stuck in monster costumes forever. MONSTA TRUCKAS is optioned for a pilot with Coquette Productions for Cartoon Network.

In 2009, Matt created a series of short films for the Fox Inkubator project, entitled MAILROOM, featuring a cast of off-kilter characters that work and play in a modern American office.

He is currently working on character designs for several other proposed animated series, including a projects featuring the voice talents of Steve Buscemi, Stanley Tucci, and David Koechner.
